Successful Napping 101

Ben has never been a sleeper. To take the time to lie in bed and drift off to sleepyland has been something that has truly pissed him off since about 6 months of age. (unless of course he his at Ron & Brenda's - but that is the Grandma's Basic Law) So anyway, every day is a bit of a sleeping struggle. It normally starts like this...

Me - "You don't have to go to sleep. You just have to close your eyes for two minutes"

Ben - "What if I go to sleep?"

Me - "Oh I will wake you up! I won't let you sleep long!" (longer than 3 hours - tee hee!)

Ben - "Where's Daddy?"

Me - "Shhhhh...."

Ben - "Where's Mamoo?"

Me - " Shhhhhhh..."

Ben - "Where's Grandy?"

Me - (louder and more menacing) "SHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

And so on and so on until he either falls asleep or it is now too late in the day to take a nap. Today was no different. But I decided a new approach.

Me - "You don't have to go to sleep. Just lay here and close your eyes for two minutes."

Ben - "No...eyes open!"

Me - "Ben, if you do not close your eyes right now we will not go outside to play, you will not get any more jelly beans and I will take Barney away from you....Ben? Ben?"

And the sleeping toddler affraid of losing his three prized possesions is my Happy Moment for Tuesday March 25, 2008.

Brilliant!!!! You've found what speaks to him! Now work that puppy for all it's worth.

BTW, I was on a phone date with one of my E-Ranch girls when you called and it was after 10 by the time I got off the phone. I would've called you back but didn't want to risk waking anyone in your house...

So reminds me of Aidan! We went to WAR daily to take a nap. He wouldn't give in until every prized possession was on top of the refrigerator. Oh, the drama! I feel for you my friend!
